Join a Fieldfare Family Expedition in search of local creepy crawlies and flying bugs. How many different types of bugs will you find?
Equipped with a bug hunting kit, including a butterfly net, pooter, collection pot, magnifying glass, clipboard and recording sheet, you will be invited to join a Fieldfare Expedition looking for as many different types of insects and creepy crawlies as you can find.
After an introduction about scientific exploration and 'how to be a scientist', you will then head off independently as a family, in search of mini beasts. At the end you will be able to share your finds with Dr. Jade Gunnell and the rest of the expedition team. Dr Jade will help to identify the finds of the day, and record them on the Fieldfare Expedition Finds list.

Get to know your wildlife neighbours, with this free, downloadable, activity sheet.
This activity sheet provides guidance on where and how to go looking for wildlife in your neighbourhood. It also encourages you to examine and explore your local wildlife in a scientific way, recording lots of details about how the specimen looks and behaves. You can download the file and print it off, again and again, creating a scrap book of your local finds. The activity sheet also folds up, into a tiny little booklet, to make it compact enough to fit in your pocket.
This activity is suitable for children aged 4 - 11 years old.
You can also download the Wild Explorers and Bug Hunt Activity sheets too, expanding your knowledge of the wildlife around you in detail.
